The “Sonnebierg” is located in Helmsange to the east of the Alzette. Its central location in the marline Keuper, an alternation of marl dating to the Triassic with dolomite banks and southwest exposure makes “Sonnebierg” an exceptional site.
In hot weather, its dry surface splits up, reminiscent of a steppe. On the other hand, rain soaks into the clayey soil, making it slippery and sticky.
150 different plants have been listed in the “Sonnebierg”. Many rare species make up this extreme floral richness, among which a dozen species of orchids.
