Marriages
A civil marriage can only occur in the town where one of the spouses has his/her legal residence.
In principle, marriages are pronounced on Fridays and the civil records registration will set the time.
Publications of marriages are done for ten consecutive days. However, these publications can only be done after the full marriage file is completed.

Civil partnerships
Partnerships are understood as committed relationships between two people, regardless of their sex, who live as a couple and who have made a statement of partnership.
Partners who wish to make such a statement must present themselves personally to the civil records registrar of the commune of their domicile or joint residence.

Births
All births must be declared to the civil records registrar in the place of birth. This declaration must be made within 5 days, not including the day of delivery. Since most deliveries are done at the State Maternity Ward or at the private clinic of Dr. Bohler, the declaration of birth must be made before the civil records registrar of the City of Luxembourg.
Declaration of death
Declaration of death must be made at the commune of the place of the death within twenty-four hours of the death. The declarant must have the medical certificate proving the death and the family booklet, or by default, any documents proving the civil status of the deceased (birth certificate, marriage certificate).
On call duty is assured Saturdays and holidays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. by calling 691 509 694.
